Two different analysis methods
Local Rules (the default) is not AI-generated. It is a deterministic, rules-based engine that checks your prompt against seven fixed signals — clarity, context, specificity, constraints, structure, output format and reasoning — and builds the score, issues, and rewrite from those checks alone. The same prompt always produces the same Local Rules report, and nothing about it is a language model's judgement.
Bring your own key (BYOK) is AI-generated. If you enter your own OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini API key, that provider's model reads your prompt and generates the score, issues, recommendations and rewrite. That output reflects the model's judgement and can vary between runs of the same prompt.
Which models, for BYOK
Each provider option has a selectable default model (for example, a fast Gemini or GPT-mini model), which you can override. We do not operate or route these requests — your browser calls the provider's API directly with your key. Model availability, capability and pricing are set by that provider, not by us.
Known limitations
- Local Rules measures observable structural signals in your prompt text, not the "correctness" of your request — it cannot judge domain-specific accuracy.
- BYOK scores are a model's judgement, not an objective measurement. The same prompt can score differently across runs or across providers.
- Models can state things confidently that are wrong. Treat factual claims in BYOK rewrites as needing your verification.
- Not every provider supports being called directly from a browser tab; if a request fails for this reason, switch to Local Rules or try a different provider.
What your prompts are not used for
We do not use your submitted prompts to train models, build marketing profiles, or populate a public library. Local Rules processes your prompt on-device only. For BYOK, your prompt goes directly to your chosen provider under their policies — it never reaches our servers, because we don't operate any server in that path.
