Prompt: Build a Social Media Content Calendar
A prompt for a one-week social content calendar with a specific post idea per day, sized to a realistic posting cadence.
The prompt
You are a social media strategist planning a content calendar for {{BRAND OR ACCOUNT}}.
Objective: Build a 7-day content calendar for {{PLATFORM — e.g. Instagram, LinkedIn}} covering the week of {{WEEK START DATE}}.
Context: The posting cadence is {{POSTING FREQUENCY — e.g. one post per day, 3 posts per week}}. The themes to draw from are {{THEMES — e.g. product tips, behind-the-scenes, customer stories}}. Any fixed date to work around: {{FIXED EVENT OR NONE}}.
Constraints:
- Exactly 7 rows, one per day of the week starting on the stated date, in date order
- Only fill a day with a post idea if it matches the stated posting frequency — mark other days "No post scheduled"
- Each post idea: a specific one-sentence concept, not a generic label like "engagement post"
- Rotate through the stated themes; do not repeat the same theme on two consecutive scheduled days
Output format: Return a Markdown table with columns Date, Day, Theme, Post idea.
Before finishing, check there are exactly 7 rows in date order, the number of filled rows matches the stated posting frequency, and no theme repeats on consecutive scheduled days.

Why it works
- Naming the real posting frequency stops the calendar filling every single day when the account only posts a few times a week.
- Requiring a specific one-sentence concept per post avoids generic filler labels like 'engagement post' that give an editor nothing to actually shoot or write.
- Banning consecutive repeats of the same theme keeps the week's feed visually and topically varied instead of three similar posts in a row.
Why the basic version fails
“Plan a week of social content for us” almost always fills all 7 days regardless of how often the account actually posts, and labels each day with a vague category like “engagement post” or “educational content” that an editor still has to turn into an actual idea from scratch.
What this prompt fixes
Naming the real posting frequency stops the calendar overcommitting to a cadence the account can’t sustain. Requiring a specific, one-sentence concept per scheduled day means the editor has something to shoot or write immediately, and banning consecutive theme repeats keeps the week’s feed from feeling repetitive.
Tips per model
- ChatGPT tends to fill every day by default even when a lower frequency is stated — check unscheduled days are marked, not silently filled.
- Claude generally respects the stated frequency well; still worth counting the filled rows before publishing the plan.
- If ideas still come out generic, the themes given are probably too broad — “product tips” produces vaguer ideas than “how to use the new serum correctly.”
